SEO Case Study

Moving Capital Small Finance Bank to capital.bank.in

In April 2025, the RBI asked all banks to move their websites to a .bank.in domain by 31 October 2025. We had built Capital Small Finance Bank’s website in early 2024, before its IPO. In September 2025, we moved it from capitalbank.co.in to capital.bank.in and managed its SEO until June 2026.

02 · The Challenge

The Challenge

The RBI’s instruction meant every page and file on the bank’s website needed a new address. Customers use the site for net banking links, interest rates, forms and account applications, and many of these pages are linked from emails, SMS and other websites.

A large share of the bank’s search traffic goes to PDF files such as application forms and rate sheets. In the nine months after the move, 803 of the 1,000 most-clicked URLs in Google were PDFs, so all of them had to be redirected correctly. We had about ten days to prepare.

03 · The Approach

The Approach

We planned the work in three stages: preparation, the switch and monitoring after the switch. Google processes a site move one URL at a time, so we expected brand searches to update quickly and the rest of the site to take a few months.

04 · Process

What We Actually Did

01

Website build

We designed and built the website in early 2024, before the bank’s IPO, so we already knew the site structure, templates and files.

02

Redirect map

We crawled the old site and used a script to match old and new URLs. Our team reviewed every URL that did not match automatically, including PDFs.

03

Launch

On the day of the switch, we tested the homepage, the top URLs and a sample of PDFs, and submitted the change to Google and Bing.

04

Monitoring and SEO

We tracked brand searches daily in the first week and the rest of the site over the next three months. SEO work on the new domain continued until June 2026.
